Our Child & Youth Services

Life Help’s children and youth services provide treatment to children ages 3 to 21 who exhibit serious emotional and behavioral disorders. With family involvement, each child is individually evaluated with an aim towards identifying which of our programs or services are best tailored to their needs. A parent or legal guardian must provide written approval of any treatment plans.

DAY TREATMENT PROGRAM
(All Life Help Counties)

Utilizing an evidence-based curriculum in a group setting, Master’s level clinicians target skills training in areas of impulse control, conflict resolution and mood regulation. The program is located at the child’s school, allowing the clinician to work closely with school personnel and family members to monitor the child’s progress. Various rewards are earned by the child for meeting treatment goals. The program runs a minimum of two hours per day, two to five days per week.

PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES
(All Life Help Counties)

At times, children with emotional and behavioral problems require medication. Life Help offers medication services through Board certified child psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners. School and clinic based clinicians work closely with these prescribers to formulate the best treatment plan possible.

FAMILY THERAPY
(All Life Help Counties)

As part of a holistic approach, school and clinic based therapists include parents and caregivers in counseling sessions. Family sessions typically target parenting skills, family dynamics, illness education and other supportive therapies. For children enrolled in school based programs, these sessions can take place at a location convenient to the family, whether at home, school, or clinic.

MAKING A PLAN (MAP)
(All Life Help Counties)

MAP is a collaboration between Life Help’s Children Services and multiple community partners. The goal is to obtain resources for children who are at risk for out of home placement.

MYPAC/WRAPAROUND
(All Life Help Counties)

MYPAC (Mississippi Youth Program Around the Clock) is an intensive program for children with complex mental health needs that is family centered and strengths based. It is a ‘wraparound’ program in that it uses a treatment planning process that gathers and involves individuals from different parts of the child’s life to ensure comprehensive care. The goal is to provide an alternative to long-term residential care by providing an array of services where it is needed most, in the child’s home. A trained facilitator assists the family in identifying individuals to serve on the child’s team (school personnel, church members, family members, etc.) to formulate a Wraparound treatment plan to help the child remain in the community.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
(All Life Help Counties)

School based individual therapy includes individual sessions between the child and a certified therapist, who is located at the child’s school. Clinic based individual therapy is also available. Sessions are usually during a time that is least intrusive to the child’s academic curriculum. Sessions may address developing skills to allow the child to better cope with the loss of a loved one, an illness in the family, interpersonal conflict, recent relocation, or other stressful events and circumstances. Children learn positive ways to make choices that result in favorable outcomes and improved relationships.

GROUP THERAPY
(All Life Help Counties)

School and clinic based group therapy services are utilized to address issues or behaviors shared by two or more individuals. Topics might include grief, anger, trauma, specific behaviors, etc. or might address and incident or series of incidents that involve group members.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES
(All Life Help Counties)

Community Support Services (sometimes referred to as Case Management) provides children and their families with linkage to resources in the community and assistance with life-skills needed for community integration.
